On contrast to Vinh An, which specializes in Southeast Asian goods, the majority of the Asian grocers on 163rd Street lean more toward Chinese products. Pinoy longaniza sausages, fermented Vietnamese sausages, and ube sausages can all be found in the freezers, along with cans of Maesri Thai curry paste and packets of Filipino seasoning.
Along with sticky rice steamers, ice shavers, and coconut graters, this is also an excellent spot to pick up a Thai mortar and pestle—either the all-purpose granite kind or the ceramic ones designated for som tum.
However, Vinh An boasts one of the largest collections of Indonesian foods we’ve seen in Miami, including bottles of sticky kecap manis and fuchsia coco. This makes it a true destination (yes, even if you live in Kendall).
